I’m using the HEATIT ET-21 Freeze Thermostatically Controlled Outlet to keep my chickens warm and to keep their water dish from freezing over. The ceramic heat lamp and heated water dish don’t need to be on all the time, so using the HEATIT ET-21 was perfect for the job. I even setup a second heat lamp controlled by the HEATIT ET-21 on the porch for my cats when we aren’t home.

We had a PVC pipe and fitting fail this winter due to some freezing conditions. I have always had a light in the well box, but didn’t realize the temps had dropped so far. After repairing the pipe and replacing that fitting, I started searching all over for the most highly rated option with a reasonable price and found this little plug.
It has worked great. I tested it in a freezer first, and then outside it kicks on right about 40 degrees in the box within a short window of time after the temperature drops. The cost was quite reasonable, and I have already purchased a 2nd unit for a different location to help prevent freezing pipes.

For the price I was thinking that this may not work but it does. We use it to heat the roofing cable so ice dams don’t form after a snow storm or freezing rain. Before purchasing this we would have to manually plug/unplug the roofing cable but with this handy switch we don’t have to worry about it. For the price it’s an excellent investment

It does what it says. My only wish is it allowed you to tune the temp a little. It’s rugged and I like the indicator light. I use this in my trailer during the winter to turn on a small electric heater to keep the water system from freezing.

This works perfect for my electric waterer that keeps their drinking water from freezing. Instead of having it on constantly the outlets will turn off the power when the temperature is above freezing automatically helping me save energy not to mention the chore of constantly watching the temperature and plugging it in or unplugging it. It’s on and off automatically.

I love that you can plug your appliances into them and when the temperatures drop they go on. I no longer have to be at home to manually plug in the water heaters for the cows and chickens. This makes life just a whole lot easier. I would highly recommend for small farms or Hobby Farms.

You have to cover it up if outside but in a well house it’s fine! What these do that I like is when it comes on the indicator light does also which lets me know if my bulb is still good! It makes it more reliable!
I put all mine in the freezer and then plugged in a socket to check it and they all work! I have bought 5 and happy with my purchase!

Our situation involves 3/4″ (OD) PEX piping (or tube if you prefer) that emerges from the ground about 8 ft from the edge of a 10 ft deep porch. The pipe is attached to the underside of floor joists and is completely exposed to ambient temperatures. It serves 2 hose bibs that are 50 ft apart along that porch. So, the overall length to protect is roughly 70 ft including branch legs. I started about 6 inches above the ground (to avoid possible exposure to water that might pass through) with the special end connector installed, all wrapped in shrink tubing for maybe 6 inches of “tape”. I did spiral around the pipe about 1 turn to 16 inches. I ran the tape from the tee up to the brass hose bibs (tape section near hose bibs was thoroughly wrapped to protect from rain/moisture) and managed to return running the HEATIT tape to the main supply for the 50 ft run to the hose bib and leg at the end. All was encased in 1/2″ thick x 1″ (ID) self-sealing foam insulation and re-hung under the joists. Termination with power supply adapter/cord into thermostatic outlet completed the install. The trickiest part was dealing with the spool, maintaining flat contact to pipe, especially when clearance between joist and ground was only about 14 inches.
Finally, when temps dropped to low 20’s (F) I sampled at hose bib and measured 95F water temp and 65F on the brass hose bib external temp (w/IR gun). So, that tells me the 6 inch exposed PEX from ground to start should be nice and warm, too. VOILA – Problem solved!

Works great

Handiest device out there. Use them in motorhome compartments with small 250watt desktop heaters. Also in water pump house. Eliminates frozen pipes.
Otto Parts –
Works as advertised, cheaper than the home depot models, looks just like em.

I have 3 of these and rely on them every winter to keep my pipes and pump house from freezing. Being solid-state they never vary and have never failed in over 5 years. Just make sure your heating device (lamp, heater, etc) is not too close and heats “it” rather than the air causing a premature shut-off. 5 stars for dependability and price. I did not check accuracy to a “degree” – not an issue.

Seems to be working well. We have not had a heavy snow or a lot of freezing precipitation, but I have noticed the areas covered by the cable attached to the thermostat, seem to be frost free in the morning. 50 seems pretty high before turn off but I’m sure they’ve done the research and testing.
